Electrolytic Condenser or Capacitors

Electrolytic condenser or capacitors

The mechanical process of storing charges in a conductor is called capacitor or, the mechanical process by which electricity is stored is called capacitor.

Electrolytic type of condenser is extensively used in radio receiver [Figure]. This type of capacitor is a type of capacitor that uses an electrolyte to achieve a bigger capacitance than other capacitor types. This type of condenser is made by inserting two aluminum plates in ammonium borate solution. One plate acts as anode and the other one as cathode. Its capacitance is very high and other than direct current it cannot be used in alternating current. When current passes through the solution, thin layer of aluminum oxide is formed on the anode plate which acts as dielectrics.

Aluminum electrolytic capacitor is polarized electrolytic capacitors whose anode electrode (+) is made of a pure aluminum foil with an etched surface. The aluminum forms a very thin insulating layer of aluminum oxide by iodization that acts as the dielectric of the capacitor. They are used in military technology, mostly in axial style, hermetically sealed.
