Atlassian Launches a Jira for Every Team

Atlassian today announced a new version of its Cumin Project Management Tools, Cumin Work Management. The company has embarked on a journey to bring Jira out to teams outside of software development groups that began with it. With the help of Cumin Service Management it is doing this successfully with IT teams.

It has also moved in this direction with Cumin Core, but Cumin Work Management has taken it one step further (and will replace Cumin Core). 

The idea here is to offer a version of Cumin that enables teams across marketing, HR, finance, design and other groups to manage their work – and if necessary – it connects to an organization’s development team. “The cumin software is this de-facto standard,” Atlassian’s VP of Note Wasmer product told me. “We are building a huge path with JIRA service management at the moment, bringing IT teams into that loop. We now have more than 100,000 customers in these two products. So it’s doing incredibly well. But one of the things that CIOs say is that it is really hard to put the JRI software in front of the HR team and the legal team. They often ask, what is code? What is a pull request?”

Wasmer further noted that although the cumin software is intended exclusively for developers, about half of its users are already in other groups who work with these development teams. “We think [Cumin Work Management] gives them a more relevant tool – a tool that actually helps them accelerate and move faster,” Wasmer said. With Cumin Work Management, the company is looking to make it easier for any team to track and manage their work as Wasmer describes it as a “universal system and family of products”.

As a company looking at how remote and hybrid work can be done, Atlassian believes that they need this kind of core product to keep track of the work going on but also about the simple fact that every business is now a software business and every team work when it touches, Marketing and design teams often still work in their own silos. Although these different teams need to manage their functionality most effectively, they also have quite different expectations from their user interface. So while Jira Work Management has all the automation features and privacy control features of its brethren, for example, it is somewhat different from the Jira software and in the vicinity of the simplified user interface.
