Lufthansa will Accept Vaccination QR Codes for Flight Check-in

Lufthansa will now accept digital proof of vaccination from passengers, eliminating the need for passengers to show printed vaccine certificates and reducing the chances of a certificate being fraudulent. In Germany, vaccinated people now receive a QR code as proof of vaccination. Lufthansa will allow travelers to display that QR code on their phone or in a printout when checking in at the airport. Once the code is scanned, the system compares the certificate data with the booking and passenger data and then issues a boarding pass.

The airline says it will soon be able to scan or digitally load QR vaccination certificates with the Lufthansa app. Once the app code is recognized, the boarding pass is issued. Travelers who don’t want to wait until they arrive at the airport to make sure they have the correct credentials, Lufthansa said they can get proof of being tested and vaccinated at a Lufthansa service center on a selected flight 72 hours before departure.

BERLIN, June 17 (Reuters) – Lufthansa (LHAGDE) will allow passengers to use the new digital COVID-19 immunization certificate when checking in for their flight, the German airline said on Thursday. Lufthansa said passengers will be able to show digital proof of the ticker on their phone or in a printout when checking in at the airport and the boarding pass will be issued.

“This eliminates the need to revisit various documents and evidence. It also significantly reduces the risk of misuse of forged vaccination certificates,” Lufthansa said. Germany last week began issuing QR codes for full vaccinations. The TUI Group (TUIGNDD), the world’s largest holiday group, said on Wednesday that Germans were booking more holidays than in 2019 before the coronavirus hit.

Lufthansa also said that it will soon be possible to use the digital vaccination certificate via smartphone using the airline’s application on selected routes. Passengers who want to verify they have the correct documentation can also contact the Lufthansa Service Center up to 72 hours after the flight, as it can also deal with evidence of a negative COVD-19 test, recovery from the virus, and vaccination.
