Characteristics of Enzyme

The protein made colorless liquid substance, secreting from a gland, having duct, which accelerates or slows down the course of chemical reaction and it remains unchanged after the reaction is known as enzyme.

Characteristics of Enzyme:

(i) A less quantity of enzyme remains functional

(ii) It remains unchanged after the reaction

(iii) Enzyme cannot start the reaction. It only influences the course of the reaction.

(iv) The capacity for influencing the chemical reaction is definite, i e a particular enzyme only influences a particular reaction.

(v) Enzymes possess great catalytic power

(vi) Enzymes are highly specific

(vii) Enzymes show varying degree of specificity

(viii) All enzymes are proteins
