An entrepreneur is a person who creates something new and assumes the risks and rewards associated with that innovation. On the other hand, in some big organizations, the top executives are encouraged to catch hold of new ideas and then convert these into products through research and development. These executives are called “Intrapreneurs”. The main difference between Entrepreneur and Intrapreneur is that Intrapreneur is an employee, and an Entrepreneur is free and the leader of the operation.
However, the major differences between an entrepreneur and an Intrapreneur are as follows:
- Meaning: Entrepreneur refers to a person who set up his own business with a new idea or concept.
- Dependency: An entrepreneur is dependent in his operations.
- Rising of funds: An entrepreneur himself raises funds for the enterprise.
- Risk: Bear risk involved in the enterprise fully.
- Operation: An entrepreneur operates from outside.
- Works for: Creating a leading position in the market.
- Meaning; Intrapreneur refers to an employee of the organization who is in charge of undertaking innovations in product, service, process etc.
- Dependency: An intrapreneur is dependent on the entrepreneur.
- Rising of funds: Funds are not raised by the intrepreneur.
- Risk: Does not bear risk involved in the enterprise fully.
- Operation: On the other hand, an intrapreneur operates from within the organization.
- Works for: Change and renew the existing organizational system and culture.
