Single Column Cash Book

Single column cash book (simple cash book) has one amount column in each side. All cash receipts are recorded on the debit side and all cash payments on the credit side. In fact, this book is nothing but a Cash Account. Hence, there is no need to open cash account in the ledger. The format of a single column cash book is given below.

It is a cash book in which simply and only cash transactions are recorded. By single column we mean “one amount column” on each side of the Cash Book. One amount column on the debit side in which inflow of cash (cash received) is recorded and one amount column on the credit side in which outflow of cash (cash paid) is recorded. It is generally maintained by such business concerns which do not have bank accounts. (small business concerns).
