Meaning of Oral Communication

When communication occurs through the words of mouth or spoken words, it is known as oral communication. It is a direct communication between individuals and takes place in the form of speech and listening. In oral communication, both the sender and the receiver can exchange their ideas, views and feelings through oral words either in face-to-face conservation or by means of mechanical or electronic device such as Telephone Meetings, Conferences, Lectures and interviews are the prime media of oral communication.

Bovee, Thill and Schatzman defined, “Oral communication is the expression of idea through the spoken words”.

According to S. K. Kapur, “Oral communication takes place when spokes words are used to transfer information and understanding form one person to another.”

In the opinion of L.C. Bovee and others, “Oral communication expresses ideas through the spoken word.”

In conclusion, it is said that when communication takes place between two or more persons through spoken words, it is called oral communication.
