In our review last year, we called Free Right Traveler “outstanding, but expensive.” The latest version of Astrohouse’s ‘Distraction-Free Word Processing Hardware Tool’ does very little to address the next concern. In fact, the Ernest Hemingway Free Right signature version comes in at $300 more than its predecessor. But the latest version of the hardware tries to be more than just a useful writing tool. In fact, Astrohouse received blessings from Ernest Hemingway Estate for a new version of a product that began life as “Hemingwright” for its 2014 Kickstarter promotion.
The product “The Sun Also Raises” tries to survive with some of the author’s ethics and/or aesthetics. “Although we changed the name to Free Wright in 2015, the very idea of writing the original Heming has caught the attention of the world,” co-founder and CEO Adam Leib said in a statement attached to the news. This time, however, the family secured the blessings of the family. The new version trades portability for aesthetics, the inclusion in an attachment field that resembles retrospective turntables from both author-of-the-year equipment and, more recently, from companies like Crosslay.
Of course, there were travel typewriters that brought their own carrying case, but Freewright significantly complicated the slimmer profile setup. Here’s the hardware’s Astrohouse writing-up [best read in a Ron Burgundy voice]:
The Hemingwright features exclusive designs with green key-caps and hand-polished aluminum chassis that are not uncoated and will develop a unique patina over time. Each unit is finished by hand – neither is exactly the same.
Each Hemingwright comes with a Hemingway monogrammed cleaning cloth and device for safe storage and comes with an exclusive attachment case where it can be found anywhere to find inspiration. Inside a deep pocket is located to store books, pens, notebooks, or other pieces of writing inspiration.
If you’re looking for something to reduce the hassle of writing on a laptop, a few years while paying homage to aesthetics, the Ernest Hemingway Free Right signature version is now available for $899.
