A Day Laborer

A Day Laborer

A day laborer is a person who works all day long for earning his living. He is an unskilled person. His work needs strength rather than skill. He is a common figure in our society. He may work as a sweeper, a blacksmith, a mason, a carpenter, a goldsmith, a peasant and as earth digger. He and his family depend on his daily income. He works hard from dawn to dusk. A day laborer gets up early in the morning and goes out for work depending only on his manual labor. He does not have any permanent work. He carries heavy loads of earth and digs canals. He does different types of jobs such as carrying bricks, wood, stones, mud and digging ponds constructing roads, buildings, etc. He works in mines. Drilling in gas fields is made possible by his labor. In this way, he does many kinds of work to earn his livelihood. He builds our buildings, industries, bridges and thus he serves our country.

He is very poor. He usually lives in a slum and lives a sub-human life with his family. He usually earns his daily living by doing hard work. He can hardly make both ends meet. He works hard the whole day and buys food for his family. He has no fixed income. He has to work hard in various fields. He gets wages if he can work. He is always dependent on his employer. Sometimes he and his family go without food if he cannot manage work. During rainy days he finds no work and he has to starve along with his family. In all weathers good and bad – he works hard all day long and earns his livelihood the sweat of his brow. When he earns a lot of money, he and his family can eat well. He can hardly buy clothes or fancy things. So the life of a day labor is very miserable.

His service is essential for the country. Though he works all day long, his income condition is miserable. Most of the time he is ill-paid and ill-treated in every sphere of his life. If he cannot earn a day his family is to starve. He feels happy when he earns the needful amount but becomes sad when he finds no work to do or gets physically ill. Though the service of a day laborer is of great importance, he is very much neglected. We all should sympathize with our work. So we should think about his rights and show respect to them.
