Distinguish between Recruitment and Selection

Selection may be defined as the process of choosing the best one from among the number of candidates. It is the procedure of choosing the most appropriate applicant for the empty place in the organization. Recruitment is a process of accumulation of human resources for the vacant positions of the organization. It is an initial step of the system. It helps to increase the success rate of the selection process by reducing the number of visibly under qualified or overqualified job applicants.

Difference between Recruitment and Selection: There are some points of distinction between recruitment and selection. Through these points, we can have clear knowledge about the real meaning and their area of operations. These point of distinction are shown in the following table –

Recruitment

  • It is the process of finding and attracting qualified applicants for the job.
  • It is the initial process.
  • It begins when new recruits are sought and ends when their applicants are received.
  • Generally, lower level manager’s deals with the recruitment process.
  • This process invites the applicants saving “come”.
  • The process of recruitment is a positive approach.

Selection

  • It is the process of short-listing candidates, assembling and they’re final, hiring decisions.
  • It is the final process.
  • It begins after the applicants are received and end when the hiring decision is made.
  • Mid and top-level managers deal with the selection process.
  • The process tells ‘bye’ to most of the applicant.
  • The process of selection is a negative approach.
