Patriotism means a person’s true love towards his/her country. Patriotism is a word that can fill your heart with emotions and bring tears of joy in your eyes, provided you love your country like your mother. A person, having the quality does good deeds for the benefits of the country. It is a great quality. A person, who have the quality, is called a patriot. Patriotism inspires a man to do everything just and fair for the well being and betterment of the country. It is the quality that impels a man to sacrifice his own interest, comfort, pleasure and even his life for the sake of his country. Without patriotism, a person becomes valueless citizen of the country. Without the quality, a person becomes the enemy of the country. So, patriotism must be nurtured in the minds of the countrymen for the overall benefit of the country. Many patriots sacrificed their lives to bring freedom in Bangladesh in 1971. It is a major evidence of the people’s patriotic quality towards the country. With the zeal of Patriotism, they fought against the occupied forces of Pakistan and earned victory for the country. People embraced martyrdom due to the noble cause of freedom. As they loved their country, they did not hesitate to sacrifice their life for their motherland. During the period, thousands of people opposed liberation war and helped Pakistanis kill Bangladeshi people. They are our enemies. They are not the patriots.
Patriots love their motherland immensely. They treat their country just like their mother when it comes to doing anything in life. In return, patriots are also loved by their countrymen. Patriotism is a spirit that makes a citizen to do good deeds for his or her country. His/her thoughts and ideas always develop centering the welfare of the country as well as its people. Patriotism not only means loves towards the country, it means to stand beside the poor, underprivileged and destitute. During the incidents of natural calamities, the generous people must stand by the side of the victims.
Patriotism makes a person noble and great. It is a great virtue. If we look back to the outstanding personalities of the country as well as the world, we will see millions of patriotic people. With their good deeds and contribution, the world is still a worth living place.
Patriotism is a part of our religious belief-according to a Hadith. It is by virtue of patriotic feeling, that a man can rise and go beyond the prejudices of race, class, color, language and religion and love everyone in the country. We must hold patriotism in us for the total welfare of the humanity.
