PlayStation has released a new PS5 update, which is unfortunate for Sony console users. If you were hoping for long-overdue features, an update to the console’s UI, or anything else noteworthy, you won’t get it. The update (23.01-07.61.00.00) is 1.15GB in size and requires a fairly large download. Despite this, it does nothing or appears to do nothing.
According to the patch notes, the update 23.01-07.61.00.00 takes up more than 1GB but simply “improves system performance.” What precisely does this mean? That is an excellent question. We don’t know, is the answer? That is the limit of the specification.
This isn’t the first time PlayStation has done this with the PS5, but the download size is normally much smaller, raising the question: is PlayStation working on a much larger update to the PS5, with this serving as the foundation? It’s possible, but this is simply conjecture. The download size is odd, but it might simply be a lot of backend and uninteresting trash. This occurs frequently, yet the opposite scenario also occurs. Nintendo, for example, does it all the time with the Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, we can only guess what this update does and does not do. We will update the story if Sony releases any additional information, but we do not anticipate this happening because if it was going to happen, it would have provided that information from the junk. It’s possible that dataminers may discover something intriguing, but this hasn’t occurred yet, and if it was going to happen, it’d have happened by now.
