Construction of the Jamuna Multi-purpose Bridge is a milestone in the history of Bangladesh. This bridge has brought a revolutionary development in the field of transportation. It has connected the southern and northern parts of the country.
The Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge is called a Multi-purpose bridge because it facilitates rail road, gas and electricity lines. The bridge connects Tangail and Sirajgonj districts. The total construction cost was seven hundred million US dollars. South Korea’s Hyundai Construction Company was given the task of constructing the main bridge. The width of the Jamuna Multi-Purpose Bridge is 18.5 meters. There are 50 pillars and 49 spans in the Jamuna Multi-Purpose Bridge. The Hyundai Construction Co. of South Korea constructed the main bridge. About 15000 people worked to construct this Bridge. The Government of Bangladesh, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and Japan provided the total cost of the bridge.
