Acid Rain

Nowadays environmental pollution is one of the most talked of topics in the world. Because environmental pollution causes various disasters to human life. Acid rain is one of them. Advancement of science and mass industrialization has led to many man-induced phenomena and acid rain is one of them. Acid Rain includes rain, snow, hail, fog, or dew that is high in acid pollutants, especially sulphuric and nitric acid. When acid instead of waterfalls from the sky, then it is called acid rain. It is mainly caused by emissions of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide from various sources. They react with the water molecules in the atmosphere to produce acids. It is very harmful to agriculture, plants, and animals. It washes away all nutrients which are required for the growth and survival of plants.

The main nature causing agents for acid rain is volcanic eruptions. Volcanoes emit a large amount of lava, producing harmful gases that create a higher than normal amount of Acid Rain. Human activities leading to the emissions of chemical gas include sulphur and nitrogen gases from the factories, power generating premises and automobiles. When we burn fossil fuel, we release a lot of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide into the atmosphere Mainly, the use of coal for electrical power generation is the biggest contributor to gaseous emissions. At this level, they mix with water, oxygen, and other components to become acid rain.

Acid rain contains harmful chemicals from fact gases. When this rain falls down and flows into the rivers and ponds it affects the aquatic ecosystem. Substances called acids have a polluted area, ran cart cause damage to trees, lakes, wildlife, buildings and human health. It adversely affects the environment includes marine biodiversity, soil, architecture & infrastructure, forests, and forest wildlife, public health. It damages the buildings and monuments made up of stones and metals. There is a link between acid rain and damage to human health. Breathing in the chemicals can harm people causing chest illnesses. Also, when acid rain causes the release of chemicals and metals into drinking water, it can damage people’s health. It can also damage buildings and historic monuments and statues, especially those made of rocks, such as limestone and marble that contain large amounts of calcium carbonate.

In a word, Acid rain is very harmful. And the prevention is; we should not let the environment polluted. The ways by which acid rain can be avoided are by the use of limestone by which people can repair the damages caused by acid rain to lakes, rivers, brooks, and other water sources. Being responsible citizens, one should be aware of the harmful effects they cause and of the industries which give out nitrogen and sulphur compound wastes unethically. The use of hybrid vehicles with negligible NO2 emissions is also a way out. Instead of using fossil fuels, use of natural gas, fuel cells and batteries can also substitute use of fossil fuels. We should take all necessary steps to keep our environment sound and healthy. Environmentally friendly methods need to be adopted by everyone. The whole world needs to take a call to avoid inflicting colossal damage to the environment.
