In an eco-system, there is another type of heterotrophic organism which is collectively known as decomposers. This includes mainly the bacteria and fungi. From the body of the decomposers, enzymes are secreted and that decomposes the dead body of the plants and animals to form simple chemical compounds. Decomposers are organisms that break down dead or decaying organisms, and in doing so they carry out the natural process of decomposition.
These chemical compounds are absorbed by the bacteria and fungi as nutrients. Besides this, the decomposers perform an important function which is to transfonn organic substances into inorganic ones. Decomposers reduce dead animals, plants, and feces into chemicals such as nitrogen and carbon. Those chemicals become part of the soil and those nutrients can then be used by living plants and the animals that consume them. These inorganic substances are used by green plants for food preparation.
