Miotochondria: It is called the power house of the cell. Most of this energy producing reactions takes place inside it. Its shape may he rod like, globuler, star like etc. Each mitochondrion is bounded by double membrane the outer one is smooth while the inner on has many folding towards the cavity of mitochondrion.
Main function of mitochondrion is to respiration. It is the major site of respiratory activities in the cell. So it helps releasing energy through respiration. The biochemical processes of the cell are known as cellular respiration. The mitochondria are important as the fact that these organelles supply all the necessary biological energy of the cell, and they obtain this energy by oxidizing the substrates of the Krebs cycle. It is also called the reservoir of energy.
