About 85% of all elements are metals. They show some special properties like metallic lusture, ductility, high electrical and thermal conductivity. This is due to special type of bond present in metal which is known as metallic bond.
Metallic bond is a special type bond, which binds the atoms of a metal together. A number of theories have been put forwarded to explain the bonding in and properties of metals. The important ones are (i) Electron gas theory (ii) Valence bond theory (iii) Molecular orbital theory.
