Organizational Behavior

Definition of Group

The group is a fundamental part of social life. As we will see they can be very small- just two people or very large. A group is defined as two or more individuals, interacting and independent, who have come together to achieve particular objectives.

Rupert Brown said, “A group exists when two or more people define themselves as the member of it and when its existence is recognized by at least one another.” According to S. P. Robbins, “Two or more individuals, interacting and interdependent who have come together to achieve the particular objective is called group.”

So, a group is a collection of individuals who have a relation to one another that make them interdependent to some significant degree.
