Dowry System
Dowry means assets or money, which is brought by a bride to her husband’s home at the time of marriage. The Dowry system is the most terrible system in our society. It is a social curse. It was the social norm in the early era. But at present dowry is the social irritation for our society. To eliminate this social wicked, people from all sections should come forward. Only law enforcing is not sufficient to force away this system. A total alteration in the attitude of society is the crying need at this moment. Furthermore, strong measures should be taken alongside the erring parents who are indulging in this practice.
Generally in our society female children are measured lesser to male children. They are the consideration to be no use. In this subcontinent more or less every family falls into this problem and faces this snake. A poor family having a maiden or spinster faces great difficulty due to dowry. So greedy people claim much money or assets from the parents of the brides. The poor and uneducated girls mostly happen to the victims of dowry. They cannot assemble a marriage ceremony of their daughter due to the demand of dowry by the father or relatives of the bridegroom. It the guardians fail to accomplish the demand of the bridegrooms, they behave badly with their wives. If the parents of the bride cannot pay as per demand, the wife is kicked out from her husband’s house by the relatives. If their demands are not satisfied, they begin mischievous with their wives and sometimes torture them dangerously. As a consequence, many of them get separated or assign suicide or are killed by their husbands. Even they are murdered by their husbands. This evil system should be uprooted from society instantly. Society must be liberated from this thought of discrepancy and false feudal values, which do not identify a woman as the same collaborator of man.
This system has exaggerated our whole society. Our young generation should be made aware of this nuisance and try to wipe out such a brainless system. It should be uprooted from the society. By developing the attitude of our citizens, we can get rid of this system. The government should take strict lawful measures against the person who take dowry. The good thing is that, at present, our Government is conscious of it. Therefore this system is altering. In the precedent, it was so high in our country. Now we have a regulation that will give dowry and take dowry, all will be identified as a criminal.
