Gardening

Plants are absolutely essential to life. None of our basic functions from breathing to eating to drinking would be possible without plants. When the trees burst into blossom or are laden with fruits, one finds one’s labor amply rewarded.

While there are many plants growing in the wild, people also cultivate and grow certain plants, bushes, and shrubs in their homes or yards. This activity is known as gardening. Gardening as a hobby is not only pleasurable but also profitable. While it may appear as a hobby to some, the fact is that gardening is actually quite beneficial and, therefore, important to us. There are different kinds of hobbies and gardening is one of them.

Gardening is a fairly physical activity. It is a good pastime. It refreshes our mind and gives pleasure. It involves weeding, watering of plants, mulching, trellising and harvesting – all of which require physical labor from the gardener. One may take delight in rowing vegetables, fruits and flowers in one’s own garden. Hence, it becomes an excellent addition to your exercise routine. It keeps our body and mind sound.

Gardening is also a very practical activity. Different kinds of gardening can be done such as flower garden, vegetable garden, fruit garden, botanical garden, etc. It allows you to grow your own vegetables and fruits thus ensuring that you have healthy food on the table. As for the planning of a garden, there is abundant scope for careful thought, for imagination and individual ideas. When you harvest vegetables from your garden, you do so knowing that you’re getting the freshest produce possible.

Gardening develops a sense of beauty and joy in nature. Gardening for aesthetics appeals to the human need for beauty. Ornamental gardening caters to the side of us that is delighted by beauty. When a man sees different flowers, vegetables, and fruits in his garden, his heart leaps up with joy. In addition, flowers are a part and parcel of most occasions such as births, anniversaries, weddings, birthdays and funerals.

There are many advantages to gardening. It provides a splendid exercise in the fresh air. It also helps sharpen problem-solving skills. Researching the best methods to make your garden grow, experimenting with different techniques and designing irrigation systems that work for you all help in improving your skills at creativity, problem-solving and planning. Besides that, it brings profit to a poor family, as fruits and vegetables are more costly now than before.

Most people dismiss gardening as a mere hobby. It also relieves our monotony.  They ignore or downplay the benefits you can get from gardening regularly. Moreover, gardening is one of the most healthful occupations. The fact is that it is much more than a recreational activity. So there is plenty of scope for using our brains as well as our limbs. Imagine what the world would look like without any gardens.
