International Women’s Day is observed on 8th March every year both in developed and developing countries. The Socialist International Meeting in Copenhagen in 1910 established a Women’s Day first to honor the movement for women’s rights and to assist in achieving universal suffrage for women. The women’s movement has been strengthened by four global United Nations Women’s Conferences. This movement has asked for co-ordinates efforts to demand women’s rights and their participation in the political and economic process. Ordinary women can play an extraordinary role in the history of women’s rights. Now the International Women’s Day is a day to reflect on progress made by women. International Women’s Day has been observed since in the early 1900’s – a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies.
The Russian women observed their first International Women’s Day on the last Sunday in February, 1913 for considering it as part of the peace movement brewing on the eve of World War 1. All the proposals which were taken in the Copenhagen Meeting were greeted with unanimous approval and this is the outcome of that meeting. The first Women’s Day was observed in America on 28 February, 1909. The International Women’s Day is an important day in Bangladesh and people observe it with great honor.
