After months of anticipation, Arkane Studios’ open-world first-person shooter Redfall was launched today for PC and Xbox Series X|S. The game revolves around four people who fight vampires in the titular town. Each character has its own set of abilities, and up to four players can go vampire-slaying at the same time.
NVIDIA has revealed that gamers playing Redfall with compatible NVIDIA graphics cards may use DLSS 3 (Deep Learning Super Sampling) and NVIDIA Reflex, which can significantly increase Redfall’s speed and minimize latency. According to NVIDIA, “enabling NVIDIA DLSS 3 accelerates performance by 71% on the GeForce RTX 4090, allowing owners to game at up to 188 FPS at 4K with all settings maxed out.”
Other GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs scale similarly, allowing GeForce RTX 4070 and higher desktop GPUs to game at over 100 FPS in 4K resolution, with the RTX 4080 reaching 148 FPS.”
NVIDIA has also said that it has prepared for the impending Diablo 4 Server Slam on May 12-14 by enabling DLSS 2 to increase the beta’s frame rate for anyone with an RTX GPU. Furthermore, when the full Diablo 4 game is released on June 6, “GeForce RTX 40 Series gamers can activate DLSS 3 for even faster performance.”This is good since Diablo 4 is one of the most highly-anticipated upcoming PC games of 2023 and many players will want to get the most out of their time with it.
Windows Central’s take: This action-adventure, as our own Jez Corden noted in our Redfall review, is “an aggressively average shooter that doesn’t convincingly explain why it needs to exist as an always-online game.” Because it requires players to always be online, it’s especially disappointing that it only supports 30 frames per second. Fortunately, NVIDIA’s AI-generated frame rate abilities enabled by enabling DLSS 3 and Reflex could be the answer to providing the smoothest gameplay experience. Of course, you can only use these capabilities if you have a suitable NVIDIA GPU.
I’ve also played Redfall, and while the game does a fantastic job of creating a strong mood, the landscape generally feels quite empty. It glows brightest when pals can enter a party and dash through vampire nests together. I’ve had a few latency difficulties and stuttering when playing, therefore it’s a good idea to look at techniques to boost performance, such as NVIDIA DLSS 3 and Reflex.
Diablo 4 already demonstrated its ability to function well in the first beta, which was made accessible earlier this year. However, the ability to activate DLSS 2 in the upcoming Diablo 4 Server Slam open beta is a boon for those looking for the smoothest playing experience. This game will undoubtedly find its way on our list of the best PC games of all time and I fully plan on playing it with DLSS 3 enabled.
