Social Discontinuity
Social discontinuity is the rapid change of values which destroy the balance of society. According to Peter Ducker, “our modern society is experiencing more than an age of routine change. It is passing through an age of discontinuity in which change is so severe that it will create whole new institutions and significantly alter existing institutions.” Many difficult problems are arising because of very rapid change which is upsetting the delicate equilibrium in our complex society. So, Social continuity cannot just be defined as the absence of social change, that is, things remaining similar, because social change is a persistent procedure in all societies. Nothing “remains unchanged”.
The four most significant discontinuities are:
- Technological improvements such as the Satellite and Cell phone. Which are having main efforts not only on business but on the entire society.
- Expansion of a world financial system of one market but without appropriate organizations for dealing it. With the one exceptions of the multinational company.
- A pluralistic social structure in which social tasks are generally entrusted to great institutions.
- Most significant of all, a knowledge uprising which has made known the vital reserve of society.
