Female Education
Education is the light of humanity. It removes the darkness of ignorance and maintains the greatness of people by pervading knowledge and morality. Man is God’s best creation and to justify this education is a must for enabling us to feel the mystery of creation. Being a blessing it elevates our position above all the creations. It helps us discover our latent qualities to ensure development in every station of life. Everybody has the equal right to obtain the light of education. Both male and female persons are blessed with equal rights with regard to getting an education. There is no distinction between them. God provides bright and good qualities to both men and women equally.
Education is to be imparted irrespective of caste, creed, sect, and sex. The pursuit of learning is made compulsory for every man and woman. Learning has got universal appeal. Women who constitute one half of the population should be imparted education for building the nation prosperous. It is admitted on all hands that they should not be deprived of the light of education. Some conservative people oppose female education. They opine that imparting the education of women is useless. According to the women are expected to do household duties looking after their children and taking care of their husbands. In the real sense of the term, women have special duties and some of their tasks are different from those of men. Women are to be trained and educated for the performance of their duties well. Without getting proper education women cannot contribute anything to the nation.
Only proper education can make them discharge their duties properly for the progress of the nation. Napoleon Bonaparte says, “Give me a good mother and I shall give you a good nation”. The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. An educated mother rules the world. The future of a child depends on how a mother brings it up and looks after it. We are expected to have ideal and educated citizens if mothers are imparted proper education. In social and domestic life women can render admirable service provided (if) they are educated well. In the family life, an educated wife can stretch her helping hand to her husband in many ways. She cheers for her duties. She plays her role as his best and truest friend and shares his joys and sorrows to inspire him to do what is noble and effective.
The atmosphere of female education should be encouraging so that women can be open-minded in receiving education. They cannot receive proper education in a conservative atmosphere. Their degrees and diplomas should not be the veils to hide their ignorance. They should be imparted modern education according to the needs of the age. Only obtaining different university degrees should not be their aim of education. They should acquire the knowledge of child-rearing, cooking, and sewing. They should get an education of being doctors, nurses, and officers in different departments of the government and engineers and whatnot. It is a wrong impression that education makes women foppish and incapable of discharging their family chores. They should be given the knowledge that proper education cannot make them so.
A law should be enacted to remove the early marriage system from our society. This system is a great hindrance to female education in Bangladesh. Girls are getting married before they attain puberty and before they get any knowledge regarding their duties to their husbands. All necessary measures should be taken to encourage female education to save the nation from utter degradation. It is admirable that the government declared free and compulsory education up to class XII.
