What is Pollution? Describe the Harmful Effects of Air Pollution.

Pollution: According to Collin Walker (1971) pollution can be defined as any changes of natural characteristics of the environment due to chemical and organic causes

The harmful effects of air pollution are given below: –

  • CO (carbon monoxide gas) gas released from mills, factories and automobiles enters the human body and mixes up with the blood reducing the quantity of O2.
  • Hydrocarbons evolved from incompletely burnt different fuels cause liver cancer.
  • Different chemicals abandoned by mills and factories may cause eye inflammation and cancer.
  • Because of the radioactive substrates ejected due to the atomic explosion may be the main causes of cancer.
  • Air-borne minute dust particles are the causes of respiratory congestion and allergy.
  • SO2 (Sulpher di-oxide) cause harms in different crops.
  • Acid rain loses the pH of soil water and this condition hinders the growth and development of plants.
  • Babies inhale air borne leads which cause inattentiveness on studies.
