The responsibility of Business Organizations regarding Ecological Balance
Ecology is concerned with the relationships of living things and their environments. Ecological balance is a term used to describe the equilibrium between living organisms such as human being, plants, and animals as well as their environment. It provides a framework in which we can see that all living things are related to others living things and they are all likewise related to their physical environment.
An activist is a guy that cleans up the river, not the guy that concludes it’s dirty. (H. Ross Perot).
Economic sustainability can be viewed through five capitals, which include:
- The natural capital which comes from our ecological system;
- The produced capital which comes from our productive activities;
- The human capital which comes from our talented people;
- Social capital which comes from social trust and social interaction; and
- The financial capital which connects all the previous four capitals to help grow and sustain an economy.
Roles of business to maintain the ecology
The social responsibilities of business for ecology include the following;
(a) Reduce Pollution: To reduce pollution to the extent that is socially and technically reasonable.
(b) Design future facilities and activities: To design future facilities and activities for ecological harmony. Included is the obligation for innovation to create better ways to live in harmony with the environment.
(c) Develop ecological inputs: To develop through ecological inputs from the social system and to respond thoughtfully to them.
