Weakness of Pluralism

Pluralism is a community of people or organization groups were representing the social interests of the group of citizens. It is a condition or system in which two or more states, groups, principles, sources of authority, etc., coexist. It is a social system in which diverse groups maintain autonomous participation and influence.

(a) Lack of Central Direction: Diverse institutions tend to pursue their own interest unless there are superior donate goals to pull them together; therefore, a pluralistic system tends to depend on the government to provide social goals, long-range plans, and policies.

(b) Emphasis on Institutional Power instead of service: In a system in which institutions have some freedom of action, there is always the possibility that institutional power will be overemphasized instead of institutional service.

(c) Social fragmentation: Another weakness of pluralism is the possibility that so many different groups will arise that their objectives will overlap and they will dissipate their energies trying to maintain coordination and keeping off each other toes.

(d) Elitism: Technology and social systems are becoming increasingly complex, and it is inevitable that some persons should know more than others about these complex matters.

(e) Focus on Conflict: It is sometimes said that pluralism focuses on conflict since there are many autonomous organizations seeking their own goals.
