Baishakhi Mela
Mela is an occasional event. Baishakhi Mela is held on the first day of the Bangla New Year. It is a fair held every year in the month of Baishakh amid great festivity and merriment. Baishakhi Mela is the reflection of the true picture of Bangladesh. It is perhaps the largest and most comprehensive celebration of the arena of Bengali culture. It is a part and parcel of Bengali culture. The day is celebrated with traditional festivities across the country. In Baisakhi mela there are many cultural programs like the ceremony of folksong, bhatiali and murshidi are held.
Bangladeshi having the taste of rich culture and tradition. On this day the cities and villages of Bangladesh wear a new dress. The largest Baisahaki Mela of the country is held at Ramana Batamul. This festival bears exhibitions, music, poetry, crafts, photography, theatre, etc. in the urban area. The origin of this fair was in the heart of our village. The Ramna batamul is the main center, around which new year celebrations have been spread around the Dhaka city. People of all ages-poor and rich, children and adults, men and women, illiterate and educated of our country participate in this Mela putting on traditional dresses and enjoy the best of it according to their area of interest. This mela prevails with various traditional products.
A Baishakhi mela is an annual gathering. Peoples are gathered with carrying festoons, play cards Banners, etc. Many fairs are held in Boishakh month. Some fair is held for a day and some for two or even more days. It upraises the traditions and national heritage with an assemblage of delicate woven clothes, potters, top, handicrafts, needlework and so on. Stalls of various things and articles of daily use are set up in an open square or under a spreading tree. It is generally held in the open place or on the bank of a river or a canal. One of the most attractive events is a lottery. It attracts people of all ages. Circus parties are found in Baishakhi mela. In addition to these, people enjoy the circus, merry go round and Jatra as special attractions. They often bring trained elephants, horses, monkeys, bears to entertain the spectators.
Bangladeshi foods are sold in small shopkeepers. In short, shopkeepers put up varieties of fascinating articles in their stalls to sell. Some shopkeepers sell artificial goods for our daily uses. Little boys and girls cry and make noise for their toys. The children buy many toys balloons, sweets and other attractive things on this day. Young, old and children visit the stall and buy different things with utmost enthusiasm. A cultural programmed is held in the Mela. Cultural functions with traditional folk songs like jari, sari, bhawaia, etc. often create an enchanting environment in this fair. People also come to these functions with spontaneity and enthusiasm. It also paves the way for establishing a linkage between village life and city life. Therefore, Baishakhi Mela is considered the most significant medium of expressing our sincerity to our culture, heritage, and tradition and increases our fraternity. Really on this day, the whole Bangle is happy and they make the plan for the whole year.
