Contribution of Women in nation-building
National development refers to the ability of a nation to improve the lives of its citizens. Many women all over the world have proved themselves as dynamic, vibrant, sincere, and perfect in many fields. Across the globe, women constitute a very significant and indispensable portion of the population. Their efforts and role in shaping a nation’s development have proved that women are in no way inferior to men. No wonder in recent times, women all the world have come to a positive focus. They are efficient and perseverant enough to face all odds, challenges, and obstacles and prove their genius in a male-dominated society.
Today’s educated and modern women have shed away their inhibitions and fears. They have shown to the world that they are highly equipped to compete in personal and professional spheres. Although a few countries, especially the developed ones, have appreciated and empowered to a large extent their women in order to play their roles and contribute their own quota to the development of their societies, many others, especially the developing countries have not appreciated fully the important roles women can play in the transformation of their countries when empowered. They are successful both as homemakers as well as professionals, academicians, bureaucrats, and politicians.
Men should realize the power of women, and women should also realize their power too, what they can do for them, for their family and for their nation. They are the building blocks of nation-building. National development is the ability of a country or country to improve the welfare of the people by providing social amenities, like quality education, potable water, transportation, infrastructure, medical care, creating a conducive political atmosphere and participation of citizens, etc. In the words of, Martin Luthar King, a mother’s place is inside her home, but she should also make certain, she gets outside that home enough to help worthwhile crusades and actively mold the country her children will live in. Their importance is evident both in modern and traditional sectors, not only as housewives and mothers in society a para-eminent role but also by their contribution to the quality of day to day life. She therefore holds a key position and her role in shaping the fate of the nation must be recognized and respected.
The government needs to formulate strict laws to check the rising crime against women. It needs to ensure that these laws are implemented strictly and the crimes against women are completely rooted out. Our women have a great part to play in the progress of our country as the mental and physical contact of women with life is much more lasting and comprehensive than men. The government should aim at eradicating illiteracy among the masses. It is education that can play an important role in women’s empowerment. For the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. “In woman is hidden the revolutionary energy which can establish paradise on this earth.” An educated woman is an asset to the country and forms the cornerstone of nation-building.
