Difference between Asexual Reproduction and Sexual Reproduction
- Usually, it occurs in the lower type of organisms.
- Male and female gametes ax not formed in this process
- Usually, it occurs by spores or any part of the plant body
- Number of daughters individually formed in this process arc usually numerous
- It is a direct method of reproduction i.e. reproduction occurs within a single organism.
- There is very little chance of variation in asexual reproduction. Mutations in DNA can still occur but not nearly as frequently as in sexual reproduction.
- Asexual reproduction is completed in a very short period of time.
- Usually, it occurs in the higher type of organisms.
- Male and female gametes are formed
- Usually, it occurs by the union of male and female gametes
- Numbers of daughter individuals formed are very few.
- It is an Indirect method of reproduction i.e. two members are essential in this process of which the one acts as a male while the other acts as a female, producing male gametes (n) and female gamete (n) respectively.
- Sexual reproduction leads to genetic variation in new generations of offspring. This is fundamental to evolution.
- Sexual reproduction can take several months time to complete.
