Group can be classified into many forms. Basically, groups are classified as formal and informal.
Formal Group: By formal group, we can define the organization’s structure, with designed work assignments establishing task. Informal groups, the behavior that team member should engage in are stipulated by and directed toward organizational goals.
A formal group can be divided into the Command group and Task group.
- Command Group: A command group is determining the organizational chart. It is composed of the individuals who report directly to a given manager.
- Task Group: Task group is also organizationally determined, represent individuals working together to complete a job task. However, a task group’s boundaries are not imitated for its immediate hierarchical superior. It can cross the command relationship.
Informal Groups: In the consist of informal groups are alliances that are neither formally structured nor organizationally determine. These groups are natural formations in the work environment that appear in response to the need for social contact.
Informal groups also classified into two groups.
- Interest Group: Interest group is a group where people working together to attain a specific objective with which each is concerned:
- Friendship Group: Groups often develop because individual members have one or more common characteristics. We call these formations friendship groups. In this group, people brought together because they share one or more common characteristics.
