A Patriot

A Patriot is a person who vigorously supports their country and is prepared to defend it against enemies or detractors. Patriotism denotes the love of one’s own country. A man who loves his motherland is a patriot. It is a quality that impels a man to sacrifice his own interest, comfort, pleasure, and even his life for the sake of his country.

A patriot always tries his best to promote the well-being of his motherland. He loves his country sincerely. A true patriot performs many duties for the country and compatriots. He is dutiful, energetic, and enthusiastic. He obeys the law, pays taxes regularly, and thinks for the country. He thinks her soil to be holy. If there is any aggression from outside he gets ready to shed every drop of his blood to defend her liberty and prestige. He has profound love and sympathy for the compatriots. He always thinks about the development of the country. Patriotism is pure love. It is more than human love for other individual human beings. In the words of Edwin Arnold, ” I love my life, true, but not more than I love my motherland.”

Patriots love their country and devote themselves to the welfare of their country. This man nourishes a great love for his countrymen. He shares their joys and sorrows. He holds the National Flag in their joys and sorrows. He holds the National Flag in high esteem. If any kind of dishonor is shown to it, he is terribly shocked. A patriot is loved and respected everywhere. To be more specific, the characteristics of which ornament patriotism include self-devotion, boldness, simplicity, unconditionality, gratefulness, dutifulness, respect, responsibility, and unselfishness. The lest of patriotism does not take place only in war-times. We can show our patriotism in the ordinary course of life. He does not hesitate a moment to sacrifice his wealth, power, happiness, and all such. Everybody can show his love for the country by doing his normal duty honestly’ and sincerely. If anybody does not work honestly, he does not serve his country, and so, he cannot be called a patriot in that case. A real patriot is ready to make any sacrifice for his motherland. The feeling of a patriot about his motherland is best analogized by the feeling of a son about his mother.

A patriot is looked upon as a saint, a hero, and a martyr. A patriot is the most honorable man in the society. Even if he dies for the sake of his country, he remains alive in the hearts of people. Our motherland has nursed us on her lap, has nourished us out of her wealth, and has sheltered us in her bosom. We should bear in mind that mother and motherland are superior to heaven. So we should keep ready to stand by her, to work for her and even to sacrifice our lives for her, if required. We should devote ourselves to the convenience of the country and compatriots.
