How Chlorine can be identified in Organic Compound?

Chlorine can be identified in Organic Compound: In the solution of chloride salt silver nitrate is added and white precipitate of AgC1 is formed. Produced precipitate is insoluble in HNO₃ but soluble in light NH₄OH.

NaCl(aq) + AgNO₃ = AgC1 + NaNO₃ (White precipitate)

AgCI(aq) + 2NH₄OH (aq) = [Ag (NH₃)₂] Cl(aq) + 2H₂O(l)
