Somatic cell: The cells of the multi-cellular organisms that only form the physical structure but do not take part in reproduction are said to be somatic cells.
Characteristics:
(i) Chromosomal numbers of these cells are usually diploid
(ii) In order to form new somatic cells, they undergo mitosis division.
Reproductive cell or gamete: The types of cells that only take part in reproductive activities arc known as reproducing cells or gametes.
Characteristics:
(i) The chromosomal numbers of these cells are always haploid (n).
(ii) These cells are formed by meiotic- division of reproductive mother cells.
(iii) Reproductive cells arc of two types, such as- a) Sperm (n) and b) Ovum(n)
