Leaf structures of Dicot and Monocot:
Dicot Leaves
- The orientation of leaf looks like horizontal and dorsiventrally differentiated
- Stomata forms usually on lower epidermis
- Cuticle forms thick on upper epidermis
- Motor cells are absent
- Mesophyll is differentiated into upper palisade parenchyma and lower spongy parenchyma
- Vascular bundles are not seen in parallel series and are supported by bundle sheath extension
Monocot Leaves
- Orientation of leaf looks like vertical and isobilateral
- Stomata forms on both epidermal layers
- Cuticle forms thick on both epidermal layers
- Motor cells are present in upper epidermis
- No differentiation of mesophyll
- Vascular bundles are in parallel series and are supported by sclerenchyma patches
