Differences between mitosis and meiosis:


1. Generally, it happens in somatic cells.

2. It may take place in haploid (n), diploid (2n) and polyploid cells.

3. interphase or resting stage is long.

4. Generally, chroiriomere can not be seen in the chromosomes of prophase.

5. Duration of prophase is short and is not divided into sub phases.

6. Generally, homologous chromosomes do not make the pair.

7. Crossing over and chiasma does not take place so that there is no exchange of genes.

8. The chromosome is divided longitudinally along with the centromere in metaphase.

9. In this division, nucleus divides one time to form two nuclei.

10. Each daughter nucleus remains similar to it’s mother nucleus both in chromosomal number and qualities.
