Over the past few months, Amazon Prime has been treating Dungeons & Dragons fans well by giving away one free Dungeons & Dragons game after another to Prime Gaming subscribers. At the moment, Amazon is continuing this trend by giving away Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition, one of the best Dungeons & Dragons games available. The Dungeons & Dragons game Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn, which came out in 2000 and was the sequel to Baldur’s Gate, is remade in this Enhanced Edition. The fact that Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition is currently free couldn’t come at a better time, especially with Baldur’s Gate 3 rapidly approaching and fans buzzing following a livestream earlier this week.
It’s free if you have an Amazon Prime subscription or know someone who does. While Prime Gaming is giving out a slew of free games in July, this one is technically distinct from the others, with Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition intended to be more of a Prime Day celebration alongside other popular titles like Prey.
But, regardless of how or why it’s free, you can get it right now if you have a Prime Gaming subscription and the Amazon Games App installed. More information on the game may be found below if you’re new to the Baldur’s Gate and Dungeons & Dragons scene and aren’t familiar with it.
In this isometric Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game, players can “continue a journey started in Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition or create an entirely new character,” according to a teaser. Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition features the original Shadows of Amn adventure, the Throne of Bhaal expansion, and all-new material featuring four new party members. It runs on an upgraded and improved version of the Infinity Engine.
Why is the time ideal for this freebie, then? If you’re playing on a PC, the full release of Baldur’s Gate 3 is now less than a month away after the release date for that version was recently moved forward; however, if you’re playing on a PS5, you’ll have to wait a little longer since that release isn’t happening until September. In either case, you’ll have to wait to play Baldur’s Gate 3 in its entirety, but you can pass the time by playing Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition.
It’s worth noting, though, that Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently available in early access on PC, though some are still waiting for the complete release because the early access edition only includes Act 1, and saves will not transfer.
