Education for Removing Poverty

Education and poverty are inversely related. Like a tree, poverty has many roots. But among the many causes of global poverty, one factor stands out: education. The higher the level of education of the population, the lesser will be the number of poor persons because education imparts knowledge and skills which is supportive in higher wages. The people in Bangladesh have a traditional mentality. They firmly believe in God. They believe that their destiny is ordained by God. The direct effect of education on poverty reduction is through increasing the earnings/income or wages. What has been written cannot be erased or changed. So, they are not attentive to improve their lot on their own accord. The main reason for their backwardness is the lack of education

Education enlightens a human being. Education also has a documented effect on health, nutrition, economic development, and environmental protection. Due to its absence, many people become superstitious as ignorance begets superstitions. Education plays a central role in preparing individuals to enter the labor force, as well as equipping them with the skills to engage in lifelong learning experiences. Increased access to education can contribute to reducing poverty. Food insecurity and poor nutrition are due to poverty and unequal distribution of resources, but it is also due to insufficient knowledge of production methods and nutritional facts. Educating girls is also a key factor in bringing about lower birth rates. Acquired basic skills such as reading, writing, and numeracy, have a documented positive effect on marginalized populations’ incomes. It increases the rate of return on the economy. A quality education system supports a child’s developing social, emotional, and cognitive and communication skills. Lack of education is a key factor of income poverty and the absence of sufficient income/earnings can’t overcome education poverty. Education is often referred to as the great equalizer: It can open the door to jobs, resources, and skills that a family needs to not just survive, but thrive.

There are many kinds of superstitions that are in vogue in our society. Through basic education, marginalized people learn more about health and are better able to protect themselves and their children against diseases. The education indirectly helps in the fulfillment of basic needs like water and sanitation, utilization of health facilities, shelter, and it also affects the women’s behavior in fertility decisions and family planning. People believe that those who undergo sufferings in this mortal world will be rewarded in the hereafter. So, to remove this superstition illiterate people should be made educated. It is therefore important to invest in education that provides children and youth with relevant theoretical and practical skills. If they become educated, they will try to improve themselves and will be turned into manpower and will become solvent. Thus poverty will be removed from society.
