Suitable Situations for Inductive Method of Arrangement
The inductive method of report arrangement is preferable under the following circumstances:
- When a detailed explanation is must for understanding the conclusion or recommendations; for example, in scientific and technical report.
- When the reader is likely to argue against the decision of the writer unless he or she is first given complete details and becomes convinced by logical development of evidence.
- If the reader considers the conclusions as bad news because they are contrary to the expected outcome of the study.
- When the reader might feel less bias toward conclusions and be more likely to accept them if first given an analysis of important factors.
- If the reader of the report needs to be encouraged to read the entire report, not just the conclusions.
- When the reader prefers the inductive method of arrangement.
